sprite lab — an animable sprite for any organism

What makes a horse a horse and a cat a cat isn't size — it's the bones: relative limb-element lengths, the vertebral formula, digit reduction, stance. So instead of a soft body scaled by a few knobs (the uncanny valley), we draw the literal articulated skeleton from real comparative-osteology data — a naturalist's bone plate, not a fake animal. Every skeleton is deterministic from the organism's iNaturalist taxon id (/sprite/?id=… is a permalink), and the bones are the rig, so the walk clip animates real joints. Phase 1 rigs the quadruped mammals + walking reptiles; sister archetypes (avian · serpent · finned · …) are next.

How a skeleton is made: the classifier maps the organism to a mammal family; an osteometric profile (the comparative-anatomy dataset) gives the vertebral formula, limb-element ratios, digit reduction and stance; the builder articulates that into a vertebral column + ribcage + four named-bone limbs, scaled by body mass; the walk clip is a procedural diagonal-gait trot on the real joints. Bone tint is seeded by clade; cursoriality (horse cannon), graviportality (bear), saltation (rabbit hindlimb) all fall out of the numbers.
